What is a pet scam?

The pet scammers scammer lures victims with pictures of cute pets and convincing stories but will never show the pet on a video call, claiming various excuses. To make the scam seem more legitimate, they often involve third-party co-conspirators who create fake logistics websites, posing as shipping companies that would be responsible for delivering the pet.

This provides a fake sense of security to the potential victim. The victim is then asked to make payments for the pet’s shipping and handling. Once the payment is made, the scammer disappears, and the promised pet never arrives. In reality, these are fake breeders and they have no pets for sale.
