What is a pet scam?

Pet scammers prey on the emotions of animal lovers by advertising adorable pets with heartwarming backstories. These deceitful sellers present themselves as reputable breeders, yet they consistently find reasons to avoid showing the animal live on a video call. Their excuses are varied and seemingly plausible, but the truth is they do not possess any animals to sell. To enhance the illusion of authenticity, these scammers often collaborate with accomplices who set up sham logistics websites.

These sites masquerade as pet shipping services, complete with detailed processes and protocols, all designed to reassure the unsuspecting buyer. When the time comes for payment, the victim is instructed to cover the costs for the pet’s transportation and other fees. Trustingly, the victim sends the money, only to find that the scammer vanishes without a trace, and the anticipated pet never arrives, leaving the victim both heartbroken and financially defrauded.
