What is a pet scam?

Pet scammers prey on the emotions of animal lovers by advertising adorable pets with heartwarming stories. These deceitful sellers present themselves as reputable breeders, yet they consistently find reasons to avoid showing the animal in a live video call, citing a variety of excuses. In truth, these scammers do not possess any animals to sell. To enhance the illusion of authenticity, they often recruit accomplices who set up sham logistics websites. These sites masquerade as pet shipping services, supposedly tasked with the safe delivery of the new furry friend.

This orchestrated ruse gives the buyer a false sense of security and professionalism. As the scam progresses, the unsuspecting victim is prompted to pay for the pet’s transportation and other related fees. However, once the payment is transferred, the scammer vanishes without a trace, and the anticipated pet never materializes, leaving the victim defrauded and without a new companion.
