What is a pet scam?

Pet scammers prey on the emotions of animal lovers by advertising adorable pets with heartwarming stories to hook their victims. These deceitful sellers present themselves as reputable breeders, yet they consistently find reasons to avoid live video interactions with the animals, citing a variety of excuses. In truth, these scammers do not possess any animals to sell. To enhance the illusion of authenticity, they often enlist the help of accomplices who set up sham logistics websites. These sites masquerade as legitimate pet shipping services, offering to deliver the nonexistent pet to the eager buyer.

This orchestrated ruse gives the buyer a false sense of security and professionalism. As the scam progresses, the buyer is prompted to pay for the pet’s transportation and other related fees. However, once the payment is transferred, the scammer vanishes without a trace, and the anticipated pet never materializes, leaving the victim defrauded and without a new companion.
