What is a pet scam?

Online pet scams involve scammers using attractive pet photos to deceive unsuspecting individuals. These scammers entice potential victims by offering pets for adoption, claiming they are free but requiring a shipping fee. To create a false sense of legitimacy, they may collaborate with accomplices who create fake logistics websites, posing as shipping companies. The scammers avoid video calls to prevent revealing the non-existent pet, instead pressuring victims to urgently pay the shipping fee.

After receiving the initial payment, they may fabricate delays at customs and demand additional fees for clearance. This scam continues until the victim realizes that the promised pet is a fabrication, leaving them both financially and emotionally devastated.
