What is a pet scam?

Pet scammers prey on the emotions of animal lovers by advertising adorable pets with heartwarming backstories. These deceitful sellers present themselves as reputable breeders, yet they consistently find reasons to avoid live video interactions with the animals, citing a variety of excuses. The truth is, these scammers do not actually possess any animals to sell. To enhance the illusion of authenticity, they often enlist accomplices who set up sham logistics websites. These sites masquerade as legitimate pet shipping services, offering to handle the delivery of the nonexistent pet, thereby creating a false sense of trust with the prospective buyer.

The scam reaches its climax when the victim is instructed to pay for the pet’s transportation and other related fees. Once the payment is transferred, the scammer vanishes without a trace, and the eagerly anticipated pet never materializes, leaving the victim defrauded and without a new companion.
