What is a pet scam?

Pet scammers prey on the emotions of animal lovers by advertising adorable pets with heartwarming backstories. These deceitful sellers present themselves as reputable breeders, yet they consistently find reasons to avoid showing the animal in a live video call, citing a variety of excuses. The truth is, these scammers don’t actually possess any animals to sell. To enhance the illusion of authenticity, they often enlist the help of accomplices who set up sham logistics websites. These sites masquerade as pet shipping services, supposedly tasked with the safe delivery of the new furry family member.

This orchestrated ruse gives the buyer a false sense of security and legitimacy to the transaction. When the time comes, the buyer is instructed to pay for the pet’s transportation and other related fees. However, once the payment is transferred, the scammer vanishes without a trace, and the anticipated pet never materializes, leaving the victim out of pocket and heartbroken.
