What is a pet scam?

Pet scammers prey on the emotions of animal lovers by advertising adorable pets with heartwarming backstories. These deceitful sellers entice potential buyers with charming photos but consistently dodge requests for live video interactions, citing a variety of excuses to hide the fact that they don’t actually possess any animals. To add a veneer of credibility to their ruse, these scammers often collaborate with accomplices who set up sham logistics websites. These sites masquerade as legitimate pet shipping services, offering to handle the delivery of the nonexistent pet, thereby duping the buyer into believing the transaction is secure and professional.

As the scam progresses, the unsuspecting victim is prompted to pay for transportation and other related fees. However, once the payment is transferred, the scammer vanishes without a trace, leaving the buyer without their money and, more importantly, without the beloved pet they were hoping to welcome into their home.
